An ancient Chinese proverb says: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step”. You can’t argue, but is this step taken in the right direction? We are chasing success and results at any cost, but is this the all-important thing? Does a gold medal make an athlete happier? There are several answers to each of these
questions, in this book I will try to share my own views and talk about the fact that, in my deep conviction, the path we follow towards our goal is more important itself than the result. After all, at any moment you can realise that you are heading in the wrong direction.
MY BOOK
This book is not just a sports memoir, but rather a journey into the world of sports within the context of two eras: the Soviet Union and the new Russia. The book is of course about volleyball, the Russian women’s team from the 1990s to the 2000s under its formidable coach Nikolay Karpol. It is about ups and downs, about delicate friendships between strong and successful women, about the Olympics and the countries I managed to visit. It is essentially about life in and after sports, about studying and developing a serious management career in
Europe.
Here you will read entertaining and insightful stories from the life of a former professional volleyball player, written with some humour and self-irony. The book should inspire aspiring or active athletes, as well as modern and energetic young women who want to play sports, build a career, start a family, study and not shy away from any obstacles.
Europe.
